After October.
Spinning and spiraling up the walls and the ceilings from the window; outside in the garden
Woke you up and made you run out
Into the autumn air and the grey fields
Far from your house
In the woods you’ve never been before
Wondering what it could be, wondering where it came from
Some little thought, a warm feeling
Caught you up and pulled you in
Curiosity of a child and eyes as wide as your head could hold
Brought you where you are and trapped you there
Some place where you weren’t so sure
Familiarity was what remained
Yet the place you left isn’t…
…The place you’ve gone
And the lights look different here
They don’t dream the same shapes.

The Right Path.
What one do you love the best?
The one from the past, the one you remember?
Something you dreamt up, the one you wish for?
What you know, or the one you know the best?
Keep kissing till you’re sorry.
Keep crying till you’re sure.
Because you can only go so far now
Till you’re dead.
You can only be certain, absolute
When it’s fleeting...
So many pieces turn into dust
...Then it’s not worth fixing
Wind-up your hands and move your feet
At whatever pace you’d like
Just choose the right path
Because now you’re never coming back.

Recent Writing
"Alex IV"
Your hands fell in
Lost their shape
Cloudy white
Smoke water
Trills & swells
(Casting out & breathing in)
Seeing Alex on the side of the pond
Stood above the moss covered rocks
In suit and hat, cigarette and smile
Picks a berry from the stark bare branch
And slides it through his clasped lips
Till it bleeds down his chin
Looking curious, looking strange
(Breathing out & hiding in)
Something unfamiliar about what I used to know
Varied, unusual, I’m not quite sure.
It’s frightening, really.
"The Dark in Callow"
There are cracks in an old house to let in the cold
The wind’s howl to keep them alive
Fevers to keep us in our beds
While breakfast always stales and cools
Set tables and no mention
Empty halls carrying no echo
Just dark walls and dark shadows
Curtains are suffocating
So sleep with your eyes open…
Down the spiral stairs to midnight tea
Murals of menace once simplicity
Photographs of family become disturbing
Their frames of thorns pricking your fingers
Collapse into the living room
Till you bled out in the rocking chair
Thinking about what you had forgot
(As the fire dies out)
& the wind howls.

New Sunset Rubdown album, "Dragon Slayer".

Coming out this Tuesday is a new album by one of my favorite bands, Sunset Rubdown. If you're not familiar with them they are fronted by famed indie rocker, Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade. The new album is not my favorite but I've yet to stop listening to it since I recieved it a month ago. It's more accessible than their previous work, "Random Spirit Lover" which was a lot denser and fuller whereas this takes a more formulaic pop approach. Give their single a listen here: http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/idiotheart.mp3 and if you like that give the whole album a listen at NPR.com
I knew her in the dim light
Another passer-by on his procured journey
Left with soil in his shoes and soot in his pockets
Checks his pocket watch and heeds the signs to his direction
Left his clues to some longed detective's inspection
"She will mend his heart with some familiar song"
Is the familiar thought.
As he stays ace in his pace and hurries through the deserted streets
Left levitating in his lingering mind of moments once passed and those that escape him
"Will she know me by name or by chance"
"Shall I be the one to imagine this dance?"
"Cast my stones to this violent sea, see which skips and which sinks?"
His thoughts tangled in the lines of his suit as his jacket whips in the winds
....And drifts him out to space
"Another day, not this one."
"But whose to count on chance and let another pass..."
Distant future is a dark one
Blinding and far
"I knew her in the dim light"
